Benfica boss Rui Vitoria says the club will cope with any player leaving them amid heavy reports linking Victor Lindelof with a move to Manchester United.
Having sold a host of talent in the past such as David Luiz, Angel di Maria and Renato Sances, Benfica are well versed in selling and replacing and Vitoria is not afraid of the prospect of Lindelof leaving.
Speaking about Lindelof, Vitoria said: “If it happens to a player we will be prepared and we will find solutions.
“There is always the prospect of someone leaving and it does not have implications on our work.
“It could be anyone. Many of them have a lot of quality and are attractive in the market, especially at their age.”
For me, it is quite obvious United need to strengthen our defence. Eric Bailly, Phil Jones and Chris Smalling have all spent time injured this season while Bailly will be away in January for the African Cup of Nations also. Our options have been limited and Mourinho has had to chop and change his defence so much this season and for a manager who has built his career on a watertight defence, it’s clear he’s not happy with the current set-up.
Do United need a new centre-back? Not every fan is in agreement but it certainly looks like Mourinho is keen on bringing Lindelof to the club as his fifth signing and Benfica won’t stand in his way if the price is right.
