Morgan Schneiderlin trained with his Manchester United teammates ahead of our Boxing Day fixture against Sunderland.
The Frenchman has replaced Bastian Schweinsteiger as the midfielder who has become frozen out by Jose Mourinho and his future at the club is considered in doubt with the January transfer window just around the corner.
Schneiderlin arrived to real furore among Man United fans because on paper he looked like the defensive midfielder we’d been desperate to sign for years. Unfortunately, he’s never kicked on with real consistency since joining and I wouldn’t be surprised to see him leave in January.
But should he remain hopeful of breaking through? There’s a positive in that he’s training with the first-team but the real question is whether Mourinho will perform a u-turn and start to give him opportunities.
I’d be more surprised than anything if Schneiderlin doesn’t leave United in the January transfer window because when you see Schweinsteiger coming out from the shadows and getting chances ahead of Morgan, it becomes really clear that Mourinho really doesn’t trust him for one reason or another.
When he was at Southampton, Schneiderlin was one of the best midfielders in the Premier League yet it’s never worked out at United. We’re not privy to reasoning behind his exodus but maybe we’ll see him play against Sunderland on Boxing Day, although I wouldn’t hold my breath about it.
