Victor Lindelof’s agent confirms bid and will discuss situation with Benfica

Victor Lindelof‘s agent Hasan Cetinkaya has confirmed there is a bid on the table for the Swedish defender but says no deal is confirmed yet.

Lindelof, 22, is wanted by Jose Mourinho at Manchester United and Portuguese newspaper O Jogo on Tuesday published an article which intimated Lindelof would be moving to United on a five-year contract worth €3.5m per year.

While Cetinkaya denied any personal details were finalised at this stage, he did confirm a bit but refused to name it specifically as Man United.

Speaking to Swedish news outlet Aftonbladet, Lindelof’s agent said: “I will not comment on specific clubs. I can only comment that there is a bid for Benfica’s table, they can consider. And I’ll be meeting with Benfica also.”

His agent goes on to say Lindelof is very happy with the bid itself because it’s proof that his work and progress has gone unnoticed, and makes it clear the decision won’t be taken lightly because of how good his situation currently is with Benfica.

If there is one thing Mourinho did with real conviction in the summer transfer window it was that he got the men he wanted. All four signings were his first choices and he went out to get them, fast. Given the transfer window hasn’t even opened yet, the same thing looks to be happening with Lindelof.

Lindelof is in action tonight with Benfica against Rio Ave and he will no doubt be questioned on the United rumours after the full time whistle. His agent has now confirmed a bid is on the table and in recent days there has been no other club than United linked with a move for him, so I suppose it would be a surprise if it were anybody else.

We’ll bring you further updates on the situation as it develops and there will certainly be some quick developments given how fast this story has moved in the last 48 hours.
