Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski has heaped praise on Benfica centre-back and Manchester United target Victor Lindelof.
Reports from Portugal earlier this week claimed that a €45m deal between Man United and the Portuguese side had been agreed.
Lewandowski came up against Lindelof during Bayern Munich’s Champions League quarter-final clash with Benfica back in April (the German side went through after claiming a 3-2 aggregate win).
The Polish striker, speaking prior to the second leg of that encounter, was full of praise for Lindelof and his centre-back partner Jardel.
For those that watched it, Bayern’s encounter with Benfica was absorbing. The first leg saw the German’s claim a 1-0 home win, but it was far from easy: Lindelof and Jardel were everywhere, hassling Lewandowski all evening, making some vital interceptions and maintaining an excellent shape throughout.
The second leg saw Bayern run riot after going behind early, racing into a 3-1 aggregate lead. But even then, with the German side at their pomp, Lindelof didn’t look out of place, displaying immense levels of speed and power to keep tabs on Douglas Costa.
He may be a relatively unknown figure in England, but this is a player capable of impressing on the biggest of stages.
