Jose Mourinho confirms Morgan Schneiderlin has asked to leave Man United

Jose Mourinho has confirmed that Morgan Schneiderlin has asked to leave Manchester United amid rumours of a potential move to Everton.

The Frenchman, who signed for Man United back in July 2015, hasn’t made a Premier League start this season, with his last appearance dating back to the 1-1 draw against Arsenal.

It was reported earlier this month that Ronald Koeman, the man who sold Schneiderlin to United, was keen on handing the midfielder a fresh start at Everton.

And according to M.E.N’s Samuel Luckhurst, Schneiderlin has personally asked Mourinho for a chance to move elsewhere.

It is easy to understand why Schneiderlin has asked for a move away from Old Trafford. The 27-year-old has plunged down the pecking order under Mourinho, finding himself behind the likes of Paul Pogba, Michael Carrick, Ander Herrera, Marouane Fellaini and even Bastian Schweinsteiger in recent weeks.

This will, to the frustration of all involved, be a ‘what might have been’ type of tale. His arrival under Louis van Gaal appeared to finally address the side’s need for a steely, powerful midfield workhorse. The early signs were positive, with Schneiderlin, accompanied by Schweinsteiger, producing a series of robust performances at the base of midfield.

But recent times have seen Schneiderlin fade away, reduced to the occasional appearance off the bench. The Frenchman clearly feels as if working under Koeman – the man that oversaw the zenith of his career at Southampton – once again would be the ideal antidote for his ailing predicament.
