Manchester United youngster Cameron Borthwick-Jackson has opened up about his close relationship with Jose Mourinho.

He went on loan at Wolves during the summer as he searched for more game time, but has struggled for minutes at the Molineux and is allegedly set to be recalled next month.

The 19-year-old is concentrating on performing at Wolves, but insists Mourinho regularly keeps in touch with him.

“I speak to him (Mourinho) all the time. He’s always keeping eyes on me and he has people watching. When I first came into pre-season I got injured early on, and as I recovered he asked me how I was and things like that,” he said.

“When I came back he said: ‘the squad’s a bit too big but I see a future for you here’ and that I’m a ‘top player’. He told me to go out and get some experience.

“It’s a very competitive league, as the games come thick and fast on Saturdays and Tuesdays. It’s a bit similar at United because you have European football in midweek. It’s a tough league, but good for my development.

When Borthwick-Jackson first left on loan there were doubts on whether Marcos Rojo would be able to fill Luke Shaw‘s boots and some supports believed the Englishman would have been a better option to cover at Old Trafford.

Moving forward, he hasn’t been able to pick up minutes at Wolves and it’s a shame because he would have been able to achieve bigger things at United under Mourinho.

Hopes are he can come back into the squad and impress the Portuguese boss as he possess plenty of potential to become a solid player.
