Here is all the latest Manchester United squad news updates ahead of our Boxing Day fixture against Sunderland at Old Trafford.
Luke Shaw is close to returning for Man United having spent a few weeks injured on the sidelines and that’s going to be a boost for us when he’s back in business. Matteo Darmian really hasn’t cut the mustard filling in there and as much as he hasn’t properly found his form under Jose Mourinho, he’s got such great potential and I want to see him fulfil it.
Eric Bailly is back in business too which is superb news. Bailly went off injured against Crystal Palace but has recovered in time to be fit for Sunderland. Will he come straight back into defence and break up the burgeoning partnership between Phil Jones and Marcos Rojo? We’ll find out tomorrow but even if he does he’ll soon be off to the African Cup of Nations in January with the Ivory Coast.
While Mourinho has not said anything about Henrikh Mkhitaryan directly, he’s said Shaw is the only unavailable player for United which indirectly means Mkhitaryan is available for selection. That’s the biggest boost we could have hoped for ahead of Sunderland because he was incredible prior to Danny Rose injuring him and I want to get that back in the team as soon as possible.
