From Portugal: Victor Lindelof now completing formalities, will join Manchester United

Victor Lindelof‘s protracted move to Manchester United is still the biggest story in the Portuguese press and O Jogo reports that he arrived at Benfica’s facilities on Tuesday morning to complete formalities for his transfer to Old Trafford.

O Jogo say Lindelof arrived back from spending Christmas in Sweden with his family and that he is expected to sign a new contract with Benfica in order to raise his release clause to €60m. That’s about the most Man United thing ever to happen to us – a club getting their player to sign a new contract in order to raise, or double, the price, but it’s not our money so who cares.

Lindelof is expected to become the most expensive player ever sold by Benfica and although nothing is over the line now, it is once again effectively being referred to as a formality now in the Portuguese press much like it was back when the reports emerged last week.

There is such a hankering for Lindelof updates that an Instagram post by his girlfriend celebrating two years in Lisbon is seen as a potential goodbye message:

Two years since I moved to Lisbon today. Best years of my life 📦❤️

Either way, the latest from the Portuguese press follows on from the last two weeks of reports to say Lindelof is at Benfica’s facilities to complete the formalities behind his move to Man United and that’s a major step in the right direction.

Jose Mourinho has signed four players so far and they’ve gone on to be an immediate success at United. Will Lindelof follow suit and become the fifth player to fit into this new look United side under the Portuguese boss?
