Video: Paul Pogba’s reaction to Henrikh Mkhitaryan’s goal vs Sunderland

by Sam Peoples

Paul Pogba could hardly believe his eyes following Henrikh Mkhitaryan’s scorpion kick against Sunderland on Saturday afternoon.

The Armenian, with his side 2-0 up, sent Old Trafford into a state of awe with a sumptuous scorpion kick after 86 minutes.

Manchester United ended up claiming a convincing 3-1 win against the Black Cats, extending their winning run to five games in all competitions.

And Pogba, who once again dominated proceedings in midfield against David Moyes’ men, was unable to keep his cool after witnessing one of the greatest goals ever scored at Old Trafford.

This is, I think, the only way to react to Mkhitaryan’s goal: initial shock as the ball flew in – where you just kind of sit there, motionless and blank, trying to process what just happened – before entering a state of disbelief. Almost as if to say: “No, no way did that just happen. That shouldn’t be allowed. These Sunderland players have families. Children are watching this, for crying out loud.”

There are moments where, as a football fan, you have to briefly abandon your allegiances and various agendas in recognition of one breathtaking, show-stopping piece of individual brilliance. Nobody on earth would fail to appreciate that goal. Sometimes sheer class prevails over all, and Mkhitaryan’s goal was one of those moments.
