The reason why Michael Carrick was absent against Middlesbrough

by Tanveer Arayan

Michael Carrick was absent for Manchester United’s clash against Middlesbrough on Saturday evening through illness.

The Englishman has been vital for Jose Mourinho‘s men since he was re-introduced at Old Trafford earlier in the campaign, with the side not losing a single game that he has started in the middle of the park.

Mourinho revealed his love for Carrick and that it was a pity he wasn’t 10 years younger, but it hasn’t stopped the Portuguese boss from playing the midfielder in each game even though he didn’t want to tire him out.

Speaking before the game, Mourinho confirmed he wouldn’t be in action.

Carrick has been an indispensable member of the squad and alongside Paul Pogba and Ander Herrera, have formed the perfect midfield trio.

His presence in midfield calms the play for Pogba, somewhat like Andrea Pirlo’s impact alongside the Frenchman at Juventus, orchestrating the game and creating chances.

Hopes are he can return back to action soon as we look much stronger with him on the pitch and there’s no doubting that he helps Mourinho get the best out of the rest of the United players.
