Memphis Depay told he must leave Manchester United in January

Netherlands coach Danny Blind has advised Memphis Depay to leave Manchester United in the January transfer window.

Mourinho confirmed on Friday that the Dutchman was keen on leaving Old Trafford after making just one start this season.

He is allegedly close to finalising a deal with Everton, where he would most likely benefit from playing under his compatriot Ronald Koeman.

Speaking about a move, Blind insists he Koeman could make a massive difference to his career in the Premier League.

“Memphis must make a transfer in January,” he said. “He is not on the core of the squad. This is why he should move.

“To Ronald Koeman’s Everton? Koeman knows him best, that can make a big difference. It has come to a stage where it might even be hard for him to get into the Everton side. On the wings at Everton they have players who will be serious competition for him. If those wingers stay, then it won’t be a piece of cake for Memphis to become a regular at Everton.”

Koeman confirmed his interest in Memphis during the international fortnight in November.

“He’s a young player with individual qualities, like aggression and efficiency,” Koeman said. “I would like him in January. He is a good and interesting player. He has shown that in his early days at Manchester United.

Memphis arrived at Old Trafford with high expectations following his spectacular career at PSV, but has failed to establish himself in the side.

At 22, there is time for Memphis to develop and he shouldn’t be allowed to leave permanently as he has the potential to go on and become a top player.

A loan move would be beneficial as he’ll pick up minutes in the Premier League that he wouldn’t get under Mourinho and will return to the club a much stronger player.
