Manchester United have re-approached Marseille midfielder Lassana Diarra’s representative, according to reports.
The Frenchman was the subject of interest from Jose Mourinho last summer, with the Portuguese boss looking to bolster his squad with Diarra’s services.
Reports claim he could be part of a deal with Morgan Schneiderlin going the other way, even though he has been heavily linked with a move to Everton and West Brom as both clubs have had deals rejected.
Diarra came through the ranks at Stamford Bridge under Mourinho and played for him again at Real Madrid, but he’s been off the radar since he left the Bernabeu in 2012, agreeing a big money deal with Russian side Anzhi Makhachkala.
He wouldn’t fit into the first-team, but would be happier on the bench than Schneiderlin, who asked to leave the club following a disappointing spell at Old Trafford.
Diarra helped Harry Redknapp’s Portsmouth side lift the FA Cup in 2008 and made 87 appearances at Real Madrid, but at 31, he won’t have the same impact at United.
However, one thing we have learnt from Zlatan Ibrahimovic‘s spell at the club, is not to write a player off, as the 35-year-old has taken England by storm as one of the Premier League’s top goal scorers.
