Bayern Leverkusen midfielder and Manchester United transfer target Hakan Calhanoglu has admitted it would be hard to turn down an offer from Jose Mourinho.
Calhanoglu, who joined the German side in 2014, was subject to an unsuccessful bid from Louis van Gaal back in 2015.
It was recently reported that Man United had sent representatives to Germany to monitor the Turk, as well as Julian Brandt, earlier this season.
The 22-year-old, when asked to comment on the links, claimed that an offer from United would be difficult to refuse.
“Barcelona and Manchester United are huge clubs it would be difficult to turn them down,” he said. “but I have not said anything about any transfers or anything of the sort.”
What kind of player is Calhanoglu? Would be able to thrive under Mourinho?
Those in Germany have likened the 22-year-old to Mesut Ozil, pointing towards his superb natural ability on the ball, prowess from set-pieces and an ability to launch passes all over the pitch.
The Turk notably polished various aspects of his game under manager Roger Schmidt – a man known for encouraging an admirable blend of style and aggression going forward – last season. He featured 42 times as Leverkusen finished in 3rd spot, developing a dogged work rate as the months went by.
Finding a place in Mourinho’s side, however, could prove to be difficult. The likes of Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Anthony Martial. Juan Mata and Jesse Lingard have all displayed their brilliance during United’s recent winning run, and a regular spot would be hard to come by.
But at the age of 22, Calhanoglu is one to watch over the next few years.
