Manchester United have confirmed that Sam Johnstone will be joining Aston Villa on loan until the end of the season.

Jose Mourinho has also decided to end Joel Pereira‘s spell with Belenenses in order to make way for Johnstone’s departure at Old Trafford.

He will play as Man United’s third back-up for No.2 Sergio Romero and No.1 David De Gea, but will most likely not receive any game time.

The club confirmed that Johnstone will head to the Midlands until the end of campaign on their social media account.

Aston Villa manager Steve Bruce could look to keep Johnstone on a permanent deal if he impresses, but it remains to be seen how his loan deal will play out.

He spent last season on loan with with Championship side Preston North End and returned to Old Trafford in the summer, where he has been learning from the likes of de Gea.

Johnstone had the opportunity to learn from the best goalkeeper in the world and there’s no doubt it would have enhanced his ability, but he’s finally been given the right chance to pick up minutes on a consistent basis, which will be key in him picking up experience moving forward.
