Luke Shaw has been pictured working hard in training ahead of Manchester United’s FA Cup third round clash with Reading on Saturday.
The youngster picked up what is believed to be a groin injury during Man United’s 4-1 win over West Ham United in the League Cup and hasn’t featured since.
Jose Mourinho, speaking ahead of United’s New Year’s Eve clash with Middlesbrough, claimed that the Englishman was back in training but not ready to feature for the first team.
The left-back was seen putting in the hard yards at Carrington in preparation for a potential return to the squad on Saturday.
You could say that Shaw’s absence hasn’t really been felt during United’s recent seven game winning run – a strong testament to the side’s depth in quality at the back.
That said, the Englishman’s raw energy on the left flank significantly empowers United’s urgency going forward and solidity at the back. The likes of Matteo Darmian and Daley Blind have demonstrated their robustness at left-back in recent weeks, but they could never match the sheer zeal brought to the party by Shaw.
A brief cameo against Reading this weekend in preparation for the game against Liverpool would be a welcome sight for all United fans.
