Bastian Schweinsteiger has sent supporters a message of gratitude following his cameo during Manchester United’s 4-0 win over Reading in the FA Cup.
The German was initially banished from the squad upon Jose Mourinho‘s arrival in June but forged his way back into the first team, making his first appearance of the season during Man United’s 4-1 League Cup win over West Ham United.
He received another chance to impress against Reading, coming on after 80 minutes to play alongside Timothy Fosu-Mensah in midfield.
The 32-year-old took to social media after the game to express his delight at receiving another opportunity to impress under Mourinho.

This was another trouble-free, seamless cameo from the German. Against a tiring and soundly beaten Reading side, Schweinsteiger calmly slotted into the place of Michael Carrick as the game’s midfield dictator, moving the ball around the pitch with a sense of equanimity that made it feel as if Mourinho hadn’t banished him from the first team for almost five months.
Then again, with the game settled and minds already looking towards the game with Liverpool, this was hardly a challenging environment for the German. United fans will be curious to see how Schweinsteiger would fare in a less forgiving environment.
