Jose Mourinho reveals Man United’s plans for the January transfer window

Jose Mourinho has revealed Manchester United’s plans for the January transfer window and insists signing a new centre-back is not a priority.

The Portuguese boss has lost Eric Bailly to the Africa Cup of Nations for the next month, while Marcos Rojo also picked up an injury in the 4-0 victory over Reading on Saturday evening.

Man United have been linked with Southampton’s Jose Fonte, who recently handed in a transfer request, and Benfica’s Victor Lindelof, who is allegedly still destined for a Old Trafford move, even though United have reportedly cooled their interest.

Speaking about the situation, Mourinho insists he has plenty of cover in his side for his defence.

“No, I wait for Bailly and I hope the three (Jones, Rojo, Smalling) can control the situation in these matches,” he said.

“I am going to try to rest one for every game and try to make a rotation between these three. We still have Daley Blind as the fourth in case we need him to play centre-back and we have Michael Carrick.”

He’s adamant signing a new centre-back in January is not a priority, and why should he be? United have looked solid in defence and the likes of Eric Bailly and Chris Smalling haven’t even been playing.

Mourinho has done what he does best at United, and that’s getting the best out of his players with Marcos Rojo and Phil Jones in spectacular form there’s no need to look elsewhere, as they’ve played a vital role in our recent unbeaten run.
