The 22-year-old has been heavily linked with an Old Trafford exit in the January transfer window as Nice and Everton have both publicly expressed their interest in the Dutchman.
The Portuguese boss claimed Memphis would not be considered for the first-team while there are still doubts over his future and he was left out of the squad for the FA Cup tie with Reading on Saturday.
Speaking about the situation, Mourinho claims there will be chances for him, but only if he stays.
“I was informed by the club that there is a chance Memphis could leave,” he said.
“From a human point of view, I cannot stop him from leaving when he is not playing under me.
“If he is staying, I would be more than happy because he is a fantastic guy and a very good player. I feel so sorry that I am not giving him opportunities to play. A player of his age needs to be playing matches.
“If he stays with me, for sure, he will play some games because we have so many matches.”
Memphis hasn’t featured much under Mourinho, but it seems like the Portuguese boss has offered him a way out if he decides to stay past this month.
He’s an exceptional talent and while he hasn’t been able to find his best level at Old Trafford, hopes are that he can adapt to life in the Premier League after he picks up some minutes.
