Manchester United 2-0 Hull City: Player ratings

by Leo Nieboer

David de Gea 6 – Had very little to do all evening. Tidy when it came to gathering and distributing the ball.

Antonio Valencia 7 – Provided his usual energy and solidity on the right flank all evening, mounting pressure with a string of dangerous crosses.

Phil Jones 7 – Another wonderfully solid showing from the now-established Englishman. Hardly put a foot wrong in his dealings with Adama Diomandé.

Chris Smalling 6 – Enjoyed a largely trouble-free evening at the back and impressed many with a series of crisp passes.

Matteo Darmian 6 – A reliable force on the left hand side, linking up well with the likes of Mkhitaryan and Pogba. Failed to produce much energy going forward.

Ander Herrera 6 – Looked lost on a few occasions in the absence of Michael Carrick at the base of midfield but quickly grew into the game.

Paul Pogba 7 – An effervescent force all evening, always bursting forward and launching superb passes all over the pitch. Acted as the heart of a dominant Man United display.

Juan Mata 6 – Looked tidy on the right hand side but didn’t manage to impose himself in the first half. Grabbed the all-important opener after 56 minutes.

Wayne Rooney 6 – Linked up well with teammates at No.10 but lacked a sense of conviction and energy going forward. His 250th United goal will have to wait.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan 7 – Produced a number of simply spellbinding moments going forward, combining with Herrera and Pogba to great effect.

Marcus Rashford 6 – An energetic, dedicated force at No.9 all evening, stretching Hull’s back four with reckless abandon. Struggled to make an impact in front of goal.

Anthony Martial

Jesse Lingard
