Lyon open talks with Manchester United for January move for Memphis Depay – report

Lyon have opened talks with Manchester United in a deal to sign Memphis Depay in the January transfer window, according to reports.

The Dutchman has been heavily linked with a Old Trafford exit this month, as Everton and Nice both publicly opened up about their interest in his services.

Lyon’s recruitment team are allegedly unanimously sold on the idea of signing Memphis, even though the 22-year-old has given a positive response to the potential move.

He was expected to leave the club alongside Morgan Schneiderlin, who is closing in on a £22m transfer to Everton and the Telegraph report that he’s entering his last 48 hours at Old Trafford.

Talks with all parties are expected to continue in the next coming days, and it wouldn’t come as a surprise to see him leave United this month as he’s endured a difficult time at United.

Memphis arrived at the club with high expectations following his showreel at PSV and it’s disappointing that he hasn’t lived up to his potential, but allowing him to leave on a permanent basis could be a costly mistake.

He deserves the opportunity to showcase his talent and a loan move to Everton would be perfect as he’d be able to develop himself in the Premier League.
