Paul Pogba: I turned down Real Madrid and Barcelona for Man United

Paul Pogba has revealed he snuffed interest from both Real Madrid and Barcelona in order to re-join Manchester United this summer.

Pogba came back to Man United after spending four years at Juventus where he went on to become one of the best midfielders in world football.

After Euro 2016 there was a wave of interest in Pogba and why wouldn’t there be from the top clubs in the world? Pogba would improve any team but it was Jose Mourinho who secured his signature after a long drawn out transfer saga.

It was the biggest transfer in the summer and speaking about his move, Pogba said the challenge of returning to Old Trafford was something he couldn’t refuse.

He said: “It is a big challenge. I could have gone to a club like Barcelona or Real Madrid, who were interested. But I decided to come back here, because it was a feeling in my heart, a feeling inside me that pushed me to come here.

“I want to win with Manchester United. I have never won [something] with Manchester United. I know that the last four or five years have been a bit difficult for the club. It was not the same like the last 10 years. I want Manchester United to become the great Manchester United again.

“That is my challenge here. The price I don’t think about myself anymore. I am here, I can to play football. Today I am not happy because of the fact that I am the most expensive player in the world, I have forgotten all about that. I don’t care.”

Pogba is far from the finished article given that he’s only 23 but already he’s transformed United’s midfield. His passing range is the best I’ve seen from a United midfielder since Paul Scholes and that’s the biggest compliment I can give him.

We’ve seen some great performances from Pogba but today’s match against Liverpool is the acid test. If he can shine against our biggest rivals in front of the Old Trafford faithful, he’ll take his season up a gear and whose to say that won’t happen. We’re all certainly hoping it does.

Pogba should never have left United but after a four year absence he came back home. Now we’re starting to see the fruits of bringing him back and things are only going to get better.
