Prior to Shaw’s horror injury last season, Memphis was building a wonderful partnership with Shaw on the left hand flank and it was something which carried so much promise and potential for Man United. Unfortunately, it never had the opportunity to flourish and only a year and a bit later Memphis is now on his way out of the club.
Having both joined as expensive young players, Shaw and Memphis experienced the same pressures and became close friends quickly at United. That relationship had so much potential yet it’s now nothing more than a ‘what if’ which is a sad state of affairs.

For me as a United fan, I love watching young players grow into stars at the club which is why I enjoyed watching Shaw and Memphis together so much but ever since Shaw’s injury, Depay really was never the same player. The injury hit him quite hard mentally and I’m not sure he ever recovered that form.
Shaw has also struggled to recover and is yet to re-find his best form under Jose Mourinho but he’ll be afforded more time, Mourinho can see his potential and wants to give him another opportunity to prove himself.
We’ll keep an eye on Memphis’ progress at Lyon and how he gets on. Hopefully he can smash it out in France.
