Manchester United fans were disappointed with Juan Mata‘s performance against Stoke City at the bet365 Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
The Spaniard has been brilliant under Jose Mourinho and has played a vital part in the side’s recent unbeaten run, picking up important goals in the process.
However, he endured a torrid first-half, where he scored an own goal, giving Stoke the lead and missed an open goal after Zlatan Ibrahimovic passed him the ball later on.
Here’s what fans on social media had to say about his performance.
Problem with playing Ibrahimovic, Mata, Mkhitaryan, Pogba, Herrera & Fellaini in the same side is that none of them will run the channels!

Ibra and Mata second half goals needed, Mkhi assisting both. Redemption for some dreadful finishing.

In my opinion we have to have Martial or Rashford on the pitch always. Need a player that can run at and in behind defences.

Can't believe Mata missed that open goal. He's one of our most clinical finishers in the team

It’s hard to believe I’d see the day where I’d question Fellaini getting taken off ahead of Mata but nothing was going his way against Stoke and I was surprised to even see him on the pitch in the second-half.
Mata is usually brilliant on and off the pitch, but there was something off about his game as he wasn’t able to get the ball forward and provide the same magic touch he is usually capable of, which is why he was taken off for Wayne Rooney in the 65th minute.
He was without a doubt our best performer before Henrikh Mkhitaryan was re-introduced to the side and it seems the inconsistencies with his playing time could be the reason behind his bad form as he hadn’t started since Boxing Day.
