Luke Shaw has been pictured in training with Manchester United’s first-team ahead of a potential return to the starting XI against Hull City in the League Cup on Thursday night.
The Englishman has not been in action since November 30 after suffering from a range of injuries and illnesses, and was on the sidelines while Jose Mourinho found his strongest team at Old Trafford.
After not being included in the matchday squad for the trip to Stoke, despite being back in training, it’ll be an odd situation if he isn’t back in action in the coming week.
Here’s a look at Shaw back in training ahead of the clash.
Shaw has left a gap in the left-back position with his absence and although the right-footed Matteo Darmian has been playing well while out of position at left-back, he hasn’t been able to fill Shaw’s boots.
The Englishman provides something that not even Daley Blind was able to replicate, along with his defensive capabilities, Shaw’s overlapping runs help get the ball forward to the likes of Anthony Martial and Memphis Depay during the Dutchman’s time at the club.
As we’ve seen many times with Martial this season, he’s often looked isolated on the flank, but Shaw’s return would undoubtedly change the situation and boost the squad.
