Manchester United sit on the cusp of a potential date with Liverpool in the League Cup final at Wembley next month.
Jose Mourinho‘s men secured a comfortable 2-0 win against Hull City in the first leg of the League Cup semi-final earlier this month, placing them firmly in the driver’s seat for the second leg.
Man United need to avoid losing by a two-goal margin in the second leg to ensure their place at Wembley, but Mourinho will want to see his side make a statement after being held to a frustrating 1-1 draw by Stoke City over the weekend.
With that in mind, here are three players the 53-year-old must start at the KC Stadium.
The 35-year-old was left on the bench over the weekend, with Mourinho clearly keen on keeping him fresh for what promises to be a furiously paced game against Hull. United will want to control proceedings on Thursday night, and Carrick’s poise and balance will help them do just that.
Mourinho insisted that Martial, reportedly unhappy with his recent lack of game time, was not injured for the game against Stoke, noting that he simply wasn’t selected for the match-day squad. But supporters will be keen to see the Frenchman make a return at the KC Stadium. Hull will need to throw bodies forward, and Martial’s raw speed on the break could be a devastating influence.
All eyes were on Pogba at the Britannia following what was a truly abject performance from the Frenchman against Liverpool, and the 23-year-old – whilst far from perfect – produced a notably brighter performance against Mark Hughes’ side, and Mourinho will be keen to see him continue exercising his influence on Thursday.
