Reports claimed the Frenchman and his representatives were upset with his treatment at Old Trafford, and the situation did not improve when Mourinho’s reason for not picking the 21-year-old was just by saying “he was not selected”.
He has struggled for consistency under Mourinho and even though he returned to his best form earlier in the year, scoring in successive games against Middlesbrough and Reading in the FA Cup, he has been in and out of the starting XI.
Mourinho was allegedly unhappy with his performance against Liverpool’s teenage right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold, resulting in Martial’s substitution in the second-half.
However, Martial continuously got the ball forward into dangerous positions and gave Alexander-Arnold such a tough time that he was always marked by at least three players moving forward which often left him quite isolated due to the lack of overlapping runs since Luke Shaw‘s injury.
He was a big figure at Old Trafford last season, finishing as the club’s highest goal scorer in his debut campaign, but a range incidents on and off the pitch have stopped him from reaching his true potential this campaign.
His agent Philippe Lamboley suggested last month that Martial might be interested in a loan move to Sevilla but he just needs to get his head down and get back into the first-team at United.
