Dean Henderson‘s loan spell at Grimsby has been extended until 6 May, Manchester United have confirmed.
The 19-year-old goalkeeper joined Grimsby on loan this deadline day on 31 August but having made six appearances since Boxing Day in 2016, keeping four clean sheets on the way, Man United have decided to allow Henderson to stay at Grimsby until the end of the season.

For Henderson it’s a big step. He’s now playing professional, competitive football in the lower leagues every week at the age of 19 which is tremendous for a young goalkeeper to do that. At United, he’d simply be playing in our U23s and I’m not sure that helps too much with development.
With Grimsby sat firmly in mid-table in League Two, Henderson is unlikely to be involved in a relegation scrap or promotion push but the simple luxury of playing every week is what will help him develop at this stage in his career.
Understandably, Henderson is delighted he can stay and continue playing.

“The fans are a massive selling point for me” Henderson told Grimsby’s official website
“I’m not going to lie, they are absolutely brilliant, it makes you feel unbeatable!
“It’s surprising how the fans took to me, I was really delighted with it. The passion I put into my football shows and it looks like they’re going to give me it back which is fantastic. It’s great to have a good relationship with the fans so that was a massive decision for me staying here, I want to do well for them and they will keep supporting us”.
We’re hoping Henderson can continue to hold onto the No.1 spot at Grimsby and continue progressing with them. Next up is an away trip to Stevenage before a home tie against Luton and we’ll be keeping an eye on their results to see how Henderson gets on.
Good luck until the end of the season Dean!
