The Frenchman was Man United’s best performer last season, finishing the season as the club’s top goalscorer, however, he’s found it hard to find form under the Portuguese boss.
Hopes were he’d be able to get back in action against Hull City, but speaking prior to the game, Mourinho insisted he hadn’t quite taken his opportunity with both hands.
Here’s what fans on social media had to say about Martial’s situation.
With Martial, important to remember that Mourinho did similar with Mkhitaryan and he worked himself back in. Ball is in Martial's court.

Seems if there was ever a time to build Martial's confidence up and gain momentum it was against Hull and Wigan. Not in the squad tonight.

I love Martial but it's really annoying to see people put their favourite player ahead of the team. Believe in Mourinho.

Love what Mourinho is doing with Martial, we're Man Utd, if that doesn't inspire you then you don't play end of

United paid £36m initially for Martial, with add-ons it could lead to £58m. You think an investment like will be washed after 2 years?

This is exactly the same situation as Henrikh Mkhitaryan’s arrival at Old Trafford, supporters were initially frustrated with his exclusion from the matchday squads, but in the end Mourinho knew best and the Armenian was by far our best performer once he returned to the side.
Man United are not looking to sell Martial because of a rough patch, but Mourinho is hoping to try and bring out the Frenchman’s best by dropping him and urging him to work hard for his place in the starting XI.
Hopes are he gets his head down and hits the ground running as there’s no doubt he has the potential to become an incredible player at Old Trafford.
