The Dutchman arrived at Old Trafford with high expectations after he was signed on by Louis Van Gaal back in 2015, but he had failed to establish himself as a first-team player.
He was sold to Lyon last week, but Mourinho was full of praise for the youngster and inserted a buy-back clause into his contract, insisting he’d be able to return to the club if he performs well.
Speaking about Mourinho’s comments, Memphis insists his relationship was never bad with the Portuguese boss.
“His words were nice,” he said.
“In Manchester, I always worked as I had to. For me personally, it wasn’t all that easy, I needed to play. But we didn’t have a bad relationship.
“He’s a great coach and a great person. Now we’ll see here how I play. In any case, I think he has said good things about me.”
It’s a shame that his time at Old Trafford didn’t work out because he showcased plenty of potential, especially in Europe, but wasn’t able to keep up with the intensity of the Premier League.
Memphis is an exceptional talent and hopes are he can impress during his time under Bruno Genesio because he deserves the opportunity to develop his skills.
