Shaw hasn’t featured for Manchester United since our 4-1 win over West Ham at the end of November where he was taken off at half-time by Mourinho but he’s all set for his return.
“Yes, he plays,” Mourinho told reporters when asked about whether Shaw would play against Wigan and I think it’s a huge boost for Man United.
Matteo Darmian, Marcos Rojo and Daley Blind have all had games at left-back but nobody offers the full package like Shaw does. Darmian is not adventurous enough, Blind doesn’t have the pace to overlap properly and Rojo is so much better as a centre-back. So, to have Shaw back will give United a dimension down the left flank we’ve not had in his absence.
Mourinho will be expecting a strong performance from Shaw but I hope he’s afforded a bit of patience from the United boss. There has to be some empathy because of his injury last year and the fact he’s still building himself back up but I’ve got every confidence in Mourinho managing it correctly.
It’s now up to Shaw to impress against Wigan. If he does and can carry that momentum going forwards, he’ll be straight back into our starting XI on a regular basis and the sooner that happens the better.
