Matteo Darmian has been eyeing up a potential transfer to Inter Milan over the summer, according to reports.
The Italian has made ten Premier League appearances for Manchester United this season, featuring primarily as a left-back in Luke Shaw‘s absence.
It was reported on a regular basis over the summer that Darmian, a second choice option during the early stages of the season, was keen on a move back to Italy, with numerous Serie A sides expressing an interest in the 27-year-old.
And according to The Sun‘s Daniel Cutts, Darmian has already started to search for a new home in Milan ahead of a summer move to Inter.
It was initially thought that Darmian, following a sensational opening few games back in August, would quickly morph into a United’s first choice right back, but the Italian has failed to replicate the same levels of power and dynamism for over a year, and supporters have largely soured towards the defender in recent months.
United’s nine-game winning run saw Darmian quietly function as a reliable but ultimately uninspiring force at left-back, doing just enough to thwart the opposition but hardly raising pulses in the process. He is, in many ways, a largely ambivalent figure at Old Trafford, and seeing him leave over the summer would – in keeping with his general style of play – neither disappoint nor please supporters.
