The Ecuadorian has enjoyed a remarkable career at Old Trafford, and although he isn’t still playing on the wing, has now earned the status as one of the best right-backs around.
He’s kickstarted his career under Jose Mourinho, knocking Matteo Darmian out of his natural position and has made the defensive role his own following his impressive displays as one of our most consistent performers.
Speaking about his move, Valencia claimed he didn’t believe Bruce when he was told about Man United’s initial approach.
Ahead of Sunday’s clash with his former club Valencia opened up about his Man United move: “I remember Steve Bruce told me that United were interested in me but I really didn’t believe him as he was always having a laugh and a joke with me. ‘No, seriously, they are very interested in you’
“A couple of days before the deal was officially announced, I met with Sir Alex and, when I looked into the eyes of the manager right in front of me, I could tell that he was serious about signing me, and he gave me his word and told me everything would be sorted out.
“That was an incredible moment and that evening I didn’t know whether to cry or shout or what to do. I rang my family in Ecuador and we chatted and they didn’t believe me either! But thankfully it all went ahead and I joined United.”
He’s been incredible this season under the Portuguese boss and whether it’s returning from surgery just weeks after an operation, or earning the Player of the Month for November, he’s been out of this world.
Hopes are he can keep himself fit as he’s been one of our best performers this campaign, and a well-deserved rest against Hull City will take him a long way to keep him in top condition.
