Former Manchester United defender Phil Neville believes Anthony Martial showcased his unbelievable ability against Wigan Athletic.
The Frenchman has been in and out of the starting XI in recent weeks due to his lack of form, but started in attack against Wigan in the FA Cup clash.
Jose Mourinho pushed him to improve after his slow start and he took his opportunity with both hands, claiming two assists in the 4-0 victory over Warren Joyce’s men.
Speaking after the victory, Neville insists he needs to perform on a more consistent basis.
“I think when you see Martial, you see someone with unbelievable ability,” he said.
“He likes to play on that left hand side, even though today he’s playing in a more central position. He’s got unbelievable speed, when he first came to Man United you thought he was on relight.
“The problem for me is two things. His consistency, sometimes he’s fantastic, the next time he’s really poor. And I’d like to actually see him smile, he’s playing for one of the biggest clubs in the world. He doesn’t look like he’s enjoying his football.”
Martial returned to the side in perfect fashion, setting up two goals for Chris Smalling and Henrikh Mkhitaryan.
He finished last campaign as the club’s top goalscorer during his debut campaign and there’s no doubt that there’s plenty more to come as he begins to find his feet under Mourinho.
The Frenchman has followed Henrikh Mkhitaryan’s situation and it’s brilliant that he’s been working hard for his place in the side as he’s cemented his place in the side for the Premier League clash against Hull City.
