Axel Tuanzebe came off the bench to make his Manchester United debut against Wigan Athletic and the 18-year-old defender can be proud of how he got on.
There may have been a shaky clearance which ultimately led to nothing but Tuanzebe will be delighted to have made his Man United debut and so will Jose Mourinho because he didn’t look at all overawed by the occasion.

Tuanzebe’s debut was made a bit more difficult as he came on for Timothy Fosu-Mensah at right-back when his more natural position is at centre-back. That’s where he captained our U18s, was named Jimmy Murphy Player of the Year and earned his reputation which he took into the U23s and built upon. However, he more than coped with it.
I’m a big fan of Tuanzebe because he’s a natural leader and I hope that’s a character trait he can bring into the first-team. We’re certainly short of defensive leaders, maybe Tuanzebe can help fill that void.
Goalkeeper Joel Pereira was also given his debut by Mourinho in the second half which was fantastic to see and on a day where the 4-0 scoreline will rightfully take the headlines, Mourinho giving a debut to two academy prospects is something which will put a smile on lots of United fans’ faces.
