Manchester United fans were notably underwhelmed by Luke Shaw‘s performance during their side’s 4-0 win over Wigan Athletic in the FA Cup fourth round.
The Englishman, making his first appearance since late November, was an uncertain, shaky influence on the left-hand side all afternoon.
Man United fans were quick to express their concerns following what was a disappointing performance from Shaw.
Shaw was…man what's happened to that lad!?? Looks a pale imitation of the kid who looked a million dollars end of 2015

Pretty routine for Utd today. Surprised that Martial and particularly Shaw didn't look more interested

Shaw wasn't great but have to bear in mind it is his first 90 in a while. Still think he offers more than Darmian! #mufc

It was clear that Shaw, following a prolonged spell on the sidelines, returned to the starting XI without his usual aura of conviction and raw menace.
The basic tenets of his game were all there, but it felt as if every small action was underpinned by a wavering sense of uncertainty. He would burst forward, with acres of ground ahead of him, and completely miss any red shirts with a stray pass, seemingly unable to decide whether to burst forward and overlap or sit back and maintain a defensive position.
Then again, for a player still feeling the mental and physical effects of a truly scarring injury, these lapses in form and confidence are always likely to occur, and supporters will hope to see the 21-year-old improve with more game time under his belt in the future.
