Phil Jones delivers strong Man United performance against Hull City

Phil Jones produced a stellar performance at the back during Manchester United’s 0-0 draw with Hull City in the Premier League.

The Englishman, rested over the weekend, came back into the starting XI with a tangible sense of vigour and freshness on Wednesday night, comfortably dealing with any threat that came his way.

Jones hobbled off just ten minutes in the second half after pulling up with what looked like a pulled thigh muscle.

But despite featuring for just 55 minutes, his stats from the game shed light on what was another powerful display alongside Marcos Rojo.

It had to happen at some point, didn’t it? Jones is indeed injured – normally a cause for that kind of ‘oh, bloody hell, not again’ frustration, but this time around a real cause for distress. He had, for the first time in quite literally years, rediscovered his groove at Old Trafford, producing assured, bold performances on a weekly basis, and now he’ll have to reunite with the injury table and start all over again.

Man United fans will have to endure an anxious wait before discovering the severity of Jones’ injury, and the early signs don’t look too promising. When players pull up mid-way through a sprint and produce that raw grimace of pain, seeing them trot out for the next game is severely unlikely.
