It was recently reported that a deal between Man United and Atletico Madrid for Antoine Griezmann had been agreed ahead of a summer move.
And according to ESPN’s Mark Ogden, Mourinho wants to add another striker to his attacking arsenal ahead of the 2017/18 campaign.
United fans will know that Zlatan Ibrahimovic, for all his unquestionable brilliance, is not a sustainable long-term option at Old Trafford.
One suspects that the Swede will feature on a more sporadic basis next season, leaving Mourinho with Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial as his only other options at No.9 – two spectacular talents, yes, but still not mature enough to lead the line for a side looking for silverware.
The Portuguese’s thinking is clear: leave Martial and Rashford out wide, use Zlatan as a specialist forward, and look to empower United’s front line with two strikers – currently at the top of their game – capable of producing a constant stream of powerful, mazy performances.
