Atletico Madrid president Enrique Cerezo claims forward Antoine Griezmann will not leave in the summer transfer window for Manchester United as they’re a small team.
The Frenchman had been heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford, with recent reports claiming he sits at the top of Jose Mourinho‘s summer wishlist.
Griezmann has allegedly agreed a deal in principle on a five-year deal which would see him on similar wages to his good friend Paul Pogba.
Speaking about the interest, Atletico president Cerezo insists he will not be going anywhere anytime soon.
“Every time I see Antoine I give him a hug,” he said. “Antoine is a fantastic player and loves life at Atletico.”
When asked recently about supposed interest from United, he said: “Manchester United? Small team.”
In a recent interview, the club president added: “I don’t know what Manchester United’s interest is. But Griezmann will be at Atletico for a long time.”
There’s a £85million release clause in his current deal and Mourinho has already proven that if he sets his eyes on a player, he will get them in a United shirt.
He lured the likes of Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Paul Pogba and Eric Bailly to United without Champions League football to offer and there’s no doubt there’s a chance we could see Griezmann at United with Mourinho at the helm.
