Jose Mourinho not worried about David de Gea’s future at Man United

Jose Mourinho is absolutely confident that David de Gea is happy at Manchester United and isn’t worried at all about Real Madrid’s interest in him.

De Gea was of course on the verge of joining Real Madrid in the summer of 2015 but an administrative failure stopped it from being completed, much to the delight of Man United fans, and he’s since continued his rise as one of the world’s best goalkeepers.

Reports this week started the De Gea to Real Madrid rumours once again but when questioned about them before United’s game against Watford on Saturday, Mourinho remained nonplussed by them and pointed towards a close relationship with Madrid as a reason for why he is so confident it won’t happen.

Speaking about he said: “With Mr Perez and his right arm Jose Angel Sanchez, they are some of the people in football that I can say that I didn’t work for them and it is over.

“I can say that we are friends forever, big friends. I like them a lot, they like me a lot. We are friends and friends speak – not every day because they have their life and I have my life.

“But friends speak, friends are open, friends don’t hide things, friends are honest.

“So if at the end of the season I want one of their players or they want one of my players, it is not through the press that we are going to change messages or are going to send noises.

“We will be very, very, very direct, so it is one of the clubs that I am not worried (about) at all because we are friends.

“And if something has to happen, it will happen between us and not with you, so it’s the kind of club I am really cool with.”

When further questioned about the De Gea rumours, Mourinho added: “I have nothing to say, really, because, as I was saying, I am not going to speak about hypothetical things.

“The only thing that is real is that he is my player, I am happy with him.

“I know that he is happy with me and there is nothing else. Absolutely nothing else.”

The way I see it with De Gea is the fact he didn’t leave when we had David Moyes or Louis van Gaal in charge. Why would he now push through a move when Mourinho is in charge and players like Paul Pogba and Zlatan Ibrahimovic are being brought into the club? In that sense, it wouldn’t make any sense for him to leave at this point.

Of course, that doesn’t necessarily mean Real Madrid won’t come and try their hardest to lure him away but try as they might Mourinho is very unlikely to let one of his best players go. De Gea is here to stay Madrid, go look elsewhere.
