Rio Ferdinand insists he had to rethink his recent criticism of Paul Pogba at Manchester United, but claims the Instagram video was released at the wrong time.
The Frenchman and team-mate Jesse Lingard posted a video of the pair dancing in the dressing room, but came under heavy scrutiny by former players insisting it was wrong to celebrate while sixth in the Premier League.
Ferdinand was the first to raise the point, but has revealed that he had to go back on his thoughts after speaking to Pogba about them.
“Since those comments, and I have spoken to Paul about them, I’ve had time to think and we are in a different era now,” he said.
“I was doing stuff that (former Tottenham and England player) Alan Mullery was probably going, ‘Oh my God, what’s he doing?’
“But times change. In a lot of ways, I like old school stuff in terms of my professionalism with football, but with the social media element I understand it and what it means to the players to have a social media following and to be active on social media.
“My only issue was timing. Timing is key to everything about when you put stuff out and I’ve said that about Arsenal players and been vocal on Man United players – it’s about timing.”
While the timing was wrong, it was clearly just a video of two players that claim they’re as close as brothers enjoying themselves in the dressing room.
I for one enjoy the pair showing off their moves, but usually after they’ve found the back of the net.
