Sergio Romero 6 – Wasn’t forced into making any big saves. Dealt comfortably with whatever came his way.
Antonio Valencia 6 – Struggled to deal with ASSE’s raw power down the left hand side during the early stages but managed to assert himself as the game went on.
Eric Bailly 6 – Almost gave away a goal within two minutes and a made a number of questionable touches in the first half, only to then reassume his normal demeanour of power during the second half.
Chris Smalling 6 – Failed to incite much composure as ASSE poured forward during the early stages but managed to atone with a number of important blocks.
Daley Blind 6 – Another reliable, composed from the Dutchman. Tidy on the ball all evening but offered next to nothing going forward.
Ander Herrera 6 – Found himself embroiled in a ferocious midfield battle from minute one, charging around the pitch with his usual verve. Picked up a booking and will need to be more careful in France.
Marouane Fellaini 6 – Provided his usual physical presence going forward, seemingly trapped in a frenzy of muscling off green shirts. Failed to offer much cover defensively and left the home side exposed on a few occasions. Came off at half time.
Paul Pogba 7 – Emphatically decided the battle of the brothers with a truly bombastic midfield performance. Wreaked havoc all across the pitch and deserved a goal.
Juan Mata 7 – Another subtly impressive performance from the Spaniard: dealt well with the physical power of Florentin Pogba and ghosted into some smart positions.
Anthony Martial 8 – Unstoppable. Simply unstoppable all evening. This was Martial at his bustling, ravenous best: Kevin Malcuit will have nightmares for a while.
Zlatan Ibrahimovic 8 – Brilliant all evening, stood up tall for two well taken goals to put Man United ahead and completed his first treble at the club as he found and scored a penalty in the closing minutes of the game.
Marcus Rashford 7 – Another performance blessed by the beauty of instant impact: came on, made his way to the byline and set up Zlatan for United’s second.
