Marcus Rashford produces superb performance against Blackburn Rovers

Marcus Rashford treated supporters to a truly excellent performance during Manchester United’s 2-1 FA Cup fifth round win over Blackburn Rovers on Sunday.

The youngster was handed a rare opportunity to feature in the No.9 role and duly took his chance, latching on to a wonderful Henrikh Mkhitaryan pass before rounding Jason Steele to guide home his seventh goal of the season after 27 minutes.

He was then moved out to the left hand side, making way for Zlatan Ibrahimovic‘s introduction, and continued to harass Blackburn’s back four during the closing stages.

A look at his stats shed light on what was, once again, a truly bombastic display.

Perhaps the most impressive thing about Rashford’s performance at Ewood Park was, above anything, the sheer maturity he invoked at the masthead of Man United’s attack.

Playing away at a Championship side with nothing to lose can serve as something of a poisoned chalice for top Premier League sides, and front-men – usually presented with a pair of burgeoning, highly physical stalwarts at the back – can usually struggle the most.

But Rashford took everything in his stride. A year has passed since the 19-year-old made his groundbreaking first team debut, and he continues to exhibit that same power and fearlessness going forward whenever he steps on to the pitch.
