Former Manchester United midfielder Paul Scholes believes that no right-back in the world would want to face Anthony Martial.
Since then, the youngster has been an effervescent force on the left hand side, delighting supporters with powerful performances during wins over Watford and Saint Etienne in recent times.
And Scholes, speaking after the game, was quick to heap praise on the 20-year-old following his recent resurgence at Old Trafford.
“I don’t think there’s any right back in the world that will fancy playing against him,” he said. “He’s so fast.”
Players like Martial are the exact reason why I would never want to play as a full-back at any level.
Don’t get me wrong: there have been times where defenders have managed to keep tabs on the Frenchman during his United career. But when he channels that unmistakeable flow to his approach, almost gliding across the pitch, there is very little even the best right back can do.
There aren’t many better sights than Martial receiving the ball, looking up, and just rampaging past a couple of players like they weren’t even there in the first place. Supporters will, no doubt, hope to see him produce such brilliance on a regular basis over the next few months.
