Wes Brown is convinced Manchester United finally have the right man in Jose Mourinho to take them back to challenging for silverware.
He spent 15 years at Old Trafford, winning five Premier League titles and two Champions Leagues and is set to face his old club as Man United face Blackburn Rovers in the fifth round of the FA Cup.
Mourinho’s men are currently fighting on four fronts and sit just four points behind second-place Manchester City in the Premier League table as the club look to get back into the Champions League.
“I think it took them a while to get into it, but now they’re on a good run,” he said. “It’s taken a good few seasons now and they’re just starting to get the fear back.
“Winning is everything when you’re at a club like United.
“The players will start to smell a few trophies now and if they can get in the Champions League, it’s been a good season. They’re not an easy team to beat now, whereas before they were getting pushed over a little bit. His two signings have been brilliant as well and it’s just a case of fitting the other players around.
“What they set out for at the beginning of the season was to get in the Champions League and they’re there or thereabouts now. Mourinho has rebuilt again, with the two big signings in the summer.
“I think the foundations are still there at the club, and you still have Sir Bobby Charlton about and Sir Alex as well.”
Despite a shaky start to the campaign under the Portuguese boss, things have started to click for Man United as they currently hold a 16-game Premier League unbeaten run, which is the best in Europe’s top 5 leagues.
Hopes are United can continue their impressive run as they’ve already done a brilliant job of closing the gap on the top four and now sit within just touching distance of Champions League football.
