Jose Mourinho: Manchester United fans were amazing against Blackburn Rovers

Jose Mourinho has heaped praise on Manchester United’s travelling supporters following his side’s 2-1 win over Blackburn Rovers in the FA Cup fifth round.

7,283 reds descended on Ewood Park for the tie, filling an entire stand, and served as a constant source of bubbling noise all afternoon.

They will make the journey back to Manchester looking ahead to a visit to Stamford Bridge after goals from Marcus Rashford and Zlatan Ibrahimovic booked Mourinho’s men a place in the quarter final next month.

And Mourinho, speaking after the game, was quick to once again acknowledge United’s superb support away from home.

“The Manchester United fans were amazing,” he said.

“I would like to say about our amazing fans, absolutely amazing. I’m so sorry in the league they don’t have so many away tickets.”

The Portuguese even joined his players in personally applauding United’s travelling support at full-time.

The FA Cup may be a fading jewell in itself, but it does continue to provide a platform for various sets of supporters to really come into their own.

They were far more than just a horde of supporters packed behind a goal; they were active participants in what was, in many ways, a classic finish to a cup tie away from home: rain pouring down, Blackburn starting to retreat further and further, and United – with their supporters behind the goal they were attacking, spurring their side on – bombing forward in search of a winner, which duly came in the form of yet another spectacular Ibrahimovic goal.
