Paul Scholes has showered praise on Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Paul Pogba following Manchester United’s 2-1 win over Blackburn Rovers in the League Cup, noting that their second half introduction “worked to perfection.”
The pair watched from the sidelines as Marcus Rashford, latching on to a superb Henrikh Mkhitaryan pass, cancelled out an early Danny Graham opener before half-time.
They were both introduced after 62 minutes and combined to grab the winner, with Pogba supplying an inch-perfect pass for the Swede, who made no mistake with the finish.
Scholes, speaking after the game, was quick to acknowledge the way Zlatan and Pogba changed the came.
This was, without doubt, a quintessentially scrappy FA Cup tie, and the only real difference between the two sides was that one was capable of producing a moment of individual, game-changing brilliance.
Anybody involved with United, from the manager to supporters, must be tired with people questioning Pogba’s astronomical transfer fee. And that pass – that once piece of play that nobody in blue and white could deal with – served as a pretty powerful response.
