Anthony Martial has dismissed any notion he wants to leave Manchester United any time soon and said he wants to play for the club as long as possible.
Martial burst onto the scene last season when he joined in a big money move from AS Monaco and went on to score 17 goals in a debut campaign which culminated in FA Cup glory for Man United.
This second season under Jose Mourinho has been tougher for Martial with the Portuguese boss demanding more from him but despite all the negative press the media have been writing about the 21-year-old, he’s made it clear just how happy he is at United.
Speaking at the St. Etienne pre-match press conference, Martial said: “I love this club, I love Manchester United, I love the Manchester United fans, they give me a lot of job and I really enjoy having them backing me. I try to be as good as possible to make them happy, to satisfy them, What I want is to stay at this club for as long as possible.”
Well, that puts to bed any stories of Martial wanting a move out of United any time soon. The press will have to make up some guff about another United player instead no doubt but for the fans this is something which will put a smile on their face, much like Martial’s recent run of revitalised form.
Martial has been superb in two of United’s last three wins against St. Etienne and Watford and heads to his home nation France for a return leg in which he’ll be full of confidence. There’s nothing better than seeing a confident Martial running at defenders at pace and Mourinho really has helped him find that.
Usually players ignore the press and rumours around their future but Martial’s decision to be so up front and honest here is a smart move. Now he can concentrate solely on his football and the fans will continue to back him just like we have done the whole time. Tres bien Anthony, tres bien!
