Monaco vice-president Vasim Vasilyev confirms Bernando Silva interest

Monaco vice-president Vasim Vasilyev has revealed that midfielder Bernado Silva has received interest from several major European sides ahead of the summer transfer window.

It was reported earlier this season that Jose Mourinho, keen on finding a midfield replacement for Michael Carrick, had expressed an interest in the 22-year-old.

Man United have cultivated a strong relationship with the French side following deals involving Radamel Falcao and Anthony Martial.

And Vasilyev, when asked whether clubs had expressed concrete interest in Silva, replied: “Yes, yes. I really don’t want to go into details, but for all our major players, we do have interest from major European clubs.

“This is not the right time to talk about it. Let’s finish the season and then we can look at our project for next season. Me, the coach and the players are focused on this season.”

Watching Ligue 1 from a distance, it felt like the tale of France’s elite followed an almost uncannily regular trend: Paris Saint Germain win the league by a mile and Monaco, for all their financial muscle, fall short in the face of, um, even more financial muscle.

But the tables have been turned emphatically this season, with Monaco racing into March three points clear at the top, and a huge contributing factor to such change has emerged in the form of Silva’s influence in midfield.

Combined with the steel of  Tiemoué Bakayoko (also a reported target), the Portuguese has dazzled supporters with a superb mixture of power and delicate still in midfield, and Mourinho will need to keep a close eye on the youngster as the summer approaches.
