Ryan Giggs has been discussing Manchester United’s chances of signing Real Madrid winger Gareth Bale over the summer, noting that the Welshman looks happy at the Bernabeu at this given time.
However, reports later confirmed that Bale, now settled in Spain, was very much part of Zinedine Zidane’s fundamental plans at the Bernabeu.
And Giggs, speaking to BBC Wales Sport, noted that Bale appears to be enjoying life in Spain and ruled out the idea of an impending summer move.
“He looks happy at Real Madrid. I don’t think he’s going anywhere at the moment,” Giggs said.
“From a fan’s point of view, it would be great to see him back in the Premier League.
“The United fans would love to see him at Old Trafford. You talk about the big clubs and United is up there. While he’s happy there [Madrid], I can’t see him leaving.”
Only a very select, privileged few make it as established figures at Madrid. And Bale, with 66 goals to his name, has been duly welcomed into the haven of footballing royalty in Spain, happily mixing with the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema.
But the Bernabeu can be a highly poisonous, impeaching environment, with any mistake vehemently pounced upon and scrutinised. And Bale will know, through virtue of history alone, that even the greats can eventually crumble at Madrid, making a future move back to England far from impossible.
