Jose Mourinho has taken a 20-man Manchester United squad over to France for Wednesday night’s Europa League clash with St. Etienne.
A squad of 23 players trained at Carrington on Tuesday morning but Wayne Rooney hasn’t been taken to France as he continues to recover from an injury which has kept him out of the team for the last few games.
The other two players to miss out are Luke Shaw and Matteo Darmian. As frustrating as this current situation is for Shaw, Mourinho certainly wasn’t going to play him away to St. Etienne if he didn’t even give him game time at Blackburn Rovers. That being said, he’s got to make sure he keeps his chin up and continues to work hard in training. With Darmian, his absence won’t hurt United given his current form and our other options in his absence.
Here is the full travelling United squad (via ManUtd.com): De Gea, O’Hara, Romero; Bailly, Blind, Fosu-Mensah, Rojo, Smalling, Valencia, Young; Carrick, Fellaini, Mata, Mkhitaryan, Pogba, Lingard, Schweinsteiger; Ibrahimovic, Martial, Rashford.

Mourinho has more than enough strength in that squad to get through this second leg against St. Etienne unscathed. It’s pretty much a full strength set of players and that’s not too much of a surprise to see from Mourinho.
We’ll bring you more updates from Mourinho’s press conference which is at 5.30pm where he might offer some insight into who will start against St. Etienne as well as explaining why Darmian, Rooney and Shaw all missed out on a trip to France.
